Advantages vs. disadvantages of Open Networking

Some 'closed' networkers claim that if everybody was connected to everybody, it would more or less amount to the same as if nobody was connected at all (les extrèmes se touchent theory).

On the other hand, in my opinion, there is little harm in having a somewhat redundant network if you e.g. on LinkedIn use the advanced options button (region, industry) to find the connections needed for a specific matter or moment in time.
